Selecting the right fork for your mountain bike depends on several factors including your riding style, budget, terrain you'll be riding on, and personal preferences. Here's a breakdown of key considerations:

 

1. Type of Riding: Determine what type of riding you'll predominantly be doing - cross-country (XC), trail, all-mountain/enduro, downhill, or a combination. Different types of riding demand different fork features and travel lengths.

 

2. Travel: Fork travel refers to the distance the fork can compress under load. XC forks typically have less travel (80-120mm), while trail and all-mountain forks may have more (120-160mm). Downhill forks can have even more travel (160-200mm+).

 

3. Wheel Size: Ensure compatibility with your bike's wheel size (e.g., 26", 27.5"/650b, 29"). Most modern forks are designed to accommodate multiple wheel sizes, but it's still essential to confirm compatibility.
